Few areas of human activity are so immersed in superstition and myth as gambling. Many gamblers do believe in \”good\” and \”bad\” luck, playing a part in their gambling success or failure and often carry \”good luck charms\” or have rituals they perform before going to play. Unless the belief in \”luck\” becomes obsessive, it is usually harmless.

Far more insidious are the myths, some based on superstition, which surrounds gambling. The myths that even the most intelligent and realistic gamblers are willing to accept is often truly surprising.

The very fact that all gambling is a matter of luck and chance is itself a myth. If that were so, over a period of time most gamblers would break even. You’ll need to look after your snowboard well if you’ve forked out the cash to buy one for yourself. Part of looking after a board is giving it a regular waxing. The reason you wax the board is not to increase grip like on surfboards, it is to make the board more slippery and faster on the slopes. When applied, the layer of wax ingrains deep into the board’s base layer. When you’re riding on the slopes the wax causes the contact layer of snow to melt, so in effect you ride on a very thin layer of water. Here is how to wax your board properly

clean off previous wax layer. Ensure that you’ve cleaned the base well and removed any covering before applying a new wax coat. This can be done by scraping it down with a plastic utensil using long strokes. You may want to use a hair-dryer to soften the wax and base cleaner which you can get from a snowboards retailer. Do not however use a metal scraper as this can damage the base.

Applying the wax. Take an iron and set the temperature so that it just melts the new wax slowly. cotton is ironed at the same temperature so you can use this as an indicator. When the temperature has been achieved hold the bar of wax and iron above the board and drip it along the length and around the edges. Then take the iron and distribute the wax even across the base by using smooth careful movements.

Finishing. When you have left the wax to cool for half an hour its time to finish the board. This basically involves buffing the base down with a clean cloth until it gives off a good shine. Finally texture the wax and remove any prominent areas by brushing it down with a hard-bristled brush, before buffing it for a final time. Now your ready for some extreme sports
